St Finian (549) founded the monastery here. He spent time in Wales.
He became one of the great early founders of monastic life in
Ireland and was known as the ‘teacher of the saints of
Ireland’ and the author of a celebrated
‘Penitential’. He also evangelised in Scotland.
There is a Church, an unfinished Cross and font and a Grave Slab.
