St Manchen (664) founded the monastery here situated on an island surrounded by bog. There is a Church, a Grave Slab, a Holy Wells and Trees as well as 2 Bullaun Stones. His Shrine, a gable tomb-shaped portable reliquary is in the Catholic church in Boher.

St Mella, St Manchen’s mother, had a cell down the ancient trackway. The enclosure perfectly preserved. There is a 10/11C Church built on the site of her cell.
