St Ciaran the founder of an early monastery here, was baptised by St Patrick in 472. It is the site of the first recorded stone church in Ireland. There is a 9 or 10C High Cross and the head of another in the ruins of the priory. Part of the Round Tower is built into the later bell tower. There is a Cross Slab
