County Mayo

The rock has on cup rings well known in prehistoric artwork; it is also known as St. Patrick's Chair. From this position the sun sets on the summit of nearby Croagh Patrick and, instead of passing behind it, gives the appearance of 'sliding' down the side of the mountain. This happens only on April 18 and August 24 and is undoubtedly deliberate and is probably something to do with marking the growing season.
