St Ciaran

County Galway

St Ciaran (6C) is said to have founded this monastery before going to Clonmacnoise. There is a mediaeval church with some other buildings around, a tall cross inscribed Pillar Stone and two other Coss Slabs in nearby fields, with further small Cross Slabs in a nearby burial ground. There is a natural Holy Well at the base of the cliff at the rear of the church.
