Banraghbaun South

Connemara, County Galway

St Columba is said to have founded a monastery here. The place is very exposed on the corner of the Galway coast opposite the Aran Islands. There are some very ancient stones in the burial ground where presumably there was once a church. The place screams with antiquity and has a fantastic appeal. St Columba's 'boat' is just outside the graveyard as is a modern outdoor altar and St Columba's Well can be found among the rocks at low tide.
