Struell Wells

County Down

These wells are close to Saul and, if St Patrick came to Saul, he would surely have come to this ancient place. There is a Drinking Well and an Eye Well and separate baths and bathing houses for men and women. A small Cross Slab is built into the wall of the Drinking Well. The church is 17C and was never finished. The place was enormously popular with pilgrims. Prayers (‘rounds’) were also said on the rocks above
