St Cummain, a hermit in the 8C founded a monastery here. There are 2 churches, both pre-12C; the one near the entrance is the older. The walls were bonded with clay, not mortar. Remains of an earlier wooden church have been found. There is also a small Cross Slab. OS 21 613 524 marked |
