Ballyvourney

County Cork

St Gobnait and her brother St Abban lived in Ballyvourney. He set up a monastery for her. Both their graves are here and both have Holy Wells, and, by St Abban’s, is a Holy Tree. St Gobnait’s cell is also here. There is a fine Cross Slab complete with a charming little figure of a pilgrim. There are 3 Ogham Stones by St Abban’s grave and a bullaun stone – which grave is very hard to find. Both may be pre-historic graves re-used.
