County Clare

Any of three St Colman’s are said to have founded the monastery here. Set under the dramatic limestone cliffs of the Burren there are three churches here, two of which can be classed as oratories. They belong to 12/13C. There are 2 enclosures surrounding them, except that the small oratory lies only within the second. The largest church has a beautiful intact arch and window and the smallest oratory also has a beautiful window. There is also an outdoor altar perhaps marking the grave of a saint.

A fallen piece of arched masonry has got the reputation of being able to cure headaches. There are some long strip fields which were once ploughed and terraces for cultivating vegetables. There is a Holy Well further up the slope dedicated to St Colman mac Duagh.
